We're Hiring!

Assistant Team Coach (Team GB)

Role purpose

The Assistant Team Coach (Team GB) supports the preparation, development and performance of athletes selected for Team GB activity, including training camps, competition preparation, European events and international representation.

The role exists to help athletes improve technically, physically and mentally while maintaining the standards expected of a national team environment. It works closely with the Head Coach, Team GB leadership, performance staff and delegation leads to deliver structured coaching support before, during and after events.

This is a development-focused coaching role, but it is not a junior admin position. The Assistant Team Coach is expected to contribute to athlete progression, training quality, team culture and competition readiness.

The role requires someone who can coach with discipline, communicate clearly, support the Head Coach’s performance plan, and help athletes understand what is required to compete at a higher level.

Key responsibilities

Coaching delivery

  • Support the Head Coach in delivering Team GB training sessions, camps and competition preparation.
  • Provide technical coaching to athletes within agreed performance plans.
  • Help athletes understand skill gaps, training priorities and progression targets.
  • Deliver clear, practical feedback before, during and after training activity.
  • Support individual and team development across relevant skydiving disciplines.
  • Reinforce consistent coaching standards across the programme.
  • Help create a focused, disciplined and professional training environment.

Athlete development

  • Support athletes in building the technical, tactical and behavioural standards required for national-level competition.
  • Help identify athlete strengths, development areas and performance risks.
  • Monitor athlete progress against agreed development objectives.
  • Support younger or emerging athletes as they transition into higher-performance environments.
  • Encourage accountability, resilience and preparation standards.
  • Help athletes understand the difference between participation, training and serious competition readiness.

Competition and event support

  • Attend selected training camps, national events, European competitions and international activity where required.
  • Support athletes and the Head Coach during event preparation, briefings and debriefings.
  • Assist with competition routines, dirt dives, mental preparation and performance review.
  • Help maintain calm and structure during high-pressure event environments.
  • Work with the Head of Delegation to support logistics, welfare and conduct expectations where needed.
  • Ensure athletes understand daily schedules, briefings and performance priorities.

Performance review and feedback

  • Assist with post-jump, post-session and post-event reviews.
  • Support video review, performance analysis and structured feedback processes.
  • Help translate technical feedback into clear action points.
  • Maintain notes on athlete progression, recurring issues and coaching interventions.
  • Contribute to post-event reports and lessons learned.
  • Support continuous improvement of coaching content, camp structure and athlete development plans.

Team standards and culture

  • Model the behaviours expected of Team GB athletes and staff.
  • Reinforce punctuality, preparation, professionalism and respect.
  • Challenge poor standards constructively and early.
  • Support a team culture based on performance, trust, accountability and learning.
  • Help athletes manage pressure, setbacks and competition demands.
  • Maintain clear boundaries between coach, athlete and support roles.

Safety and compliance

  • Promote safe coaching practice at all times.
  • Ensure coaching activity aligns with relevant safety procedures, drop zone rules and governing body expectations.
  • Support risk awareness during training and event activity.
  • Escalate safety, welfare or conduct concerns appropriately.
  • Maintain clear communication with the Head Coach, Chief Instructor and event leadership where relevant.
  • Ensure athletes understand that performance never overrides safety.

Communication and coordination

  • Work closely with the Head Coach to understand coaching priorities and athlete needs.
  • Communicate clearly with athletes, coaches, support staff and delegation leads.
  • Support pre-event and post-event briefings.
  • Provide timely updates on athlete progress, issues or concerns.
  • Help maintain consistency between training expectations and competition delivery.
  • Represent REIVER and Team GB professionally in all environments.

About you

You are a credible coach who wants to help athletes get better, not just give them encouragement.

You understand that performance coaching is about clarity, standards, repetition and honest feedback. You are calm, organised and able to support athletes without making the environment soft or chaotic.

You can work under a Head Coach, follow a programme, and add value without trying to take over. You are confident enough to challenge when needed, but disciplined enough to stay aligned with the wider performance plan.

You care about athlete development, but you also understand that Team GB representation carries expectations. You will help athletes prepare properly, behave professionally and take ownership of their progression.

You are practical, direct and composed. You know how to build confidence without lowering the bar.

Essential experience

  • Experience coaching skydivers in a structured environment.
  • Strong technical understanding of at least one relevant competitive skydiving discipline.
  • Experience supporting athlete or team development over time, not just one-off coaching sessions.
  • Ability to deliver clear, practical and honest feedback.
  • Strong understanding of safe coaching practice and operational discipline.
  • Experience working with athletes in training camps, competitions or performance-focused environments.
  • Good communication skills with athletes, coaches and operational staff.
  • Ability to follow a Head Coach’s programme and deliver consistently within it.
  • Calm and credible under pressure.
  • Strong judgement around safety, welfare, conduct and escalation.
  • Willingness to travel for camps, events and competitions.
  • Relevant skydiving instructional, coaching or competition credentials.

Desirable experience

  • Previous Team GB, national squad, elite sport or representative team experience.
  • Experience coaching junior, academy or emerging athletes.
  • Experience competing at national or international level.
  • British Skydiving coaching or instructional ratings.
  • Experience with FS, VFS, Freefly, Speed, Canopy Piloting or other relevant competition disciplines.
  • Experience using video analysis or structured performance review tools.
  • Safeguarding training or experience working with younger athletes.
  • First aid qualification.
  • Experience supporting athletes at European or international competitions.
  • Understanding of FAI, ISC or international competition environments.
  • Experience working in a multi-coach performance team.
  • Additional skills in mental preparation, strength and conditioning, athlete welfare or competition logistics.
